Kolkata: The health condition of legendary singer Sandhya Mukherjee, undergoing treatment for COVID-19, has slightly improved, hospital officials said here on Saturday.

She has been under constant monitoring by a team of doctors and stated to be critical but stable. Sandhya is currently undergoing treatment in a Covid isolation room.

"She has multi-organ dysfunction and a fracture of the left neck of femur. Presently she is conscious, alert and oriented. Her blood pressure is being maintained with low dose vasopressor support. Her saturation is being maintained with 2 litres of oxygen. Her urine output at present is adequate. Presently, she does not have a fever. She has accepted oral feed but is also being provided nutritional support through Ryles tube," said a press statement issued by the hospital.

On Thursday, the veteran artist was taken to SSKM Hospital through Green Corridor. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday visited state-run SSKM hospital to see ailing legendary singer Sandhya Mukherjee suffering from Covid.

The ninety-year-old artist was brought to SSKM hospital through Green Corridor this afternoon.

As soon as the Chief Minister entered the SSKM hospital, doctors Somnath Kundu, Asim Kundu and Niladri spoke to her.

She inquired about the physical condition of the artist.

Banerjee, after a meeting at the hospital, came out and said that the legendary singer was suffering from corona and she is currently in isolation.

Banerjee said, “I have to shift the legendary singer to Apollo hospital. We are making arrangements to transfer her today. She has heart problems. I wish him a speedy recovery.”

At first it was decided to shift her to Shambhunath Pandit Hospital but later the Chief Minister decided to admit the veteran singer to Apollo Hospital.

She has already made all arrangements by talking to the concerned hospital.

Incidentally, the singer, a recipient of `Banga Bibhushan', and National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer, had a couple of days back refused an offer of a Padma Shri award when she was contacted by central government officials telephonically for her acquiesce.

A classical and semi-classical singer, Mukherjee has sung for numerous Bengali movies and for a number of Hindi movies and has worked with leading music directors including S.D.Burman, Madan Mohan, Naushad, Anil Biswas and Salil Chaudhury.
