High court relief paves way for release of The Kerala Story 2

A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Friday granted interim relief for the release of The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, clearing the way for the film’s theatrical debut and providing relief to its makers.

The movie was originally scheduled to hit the silver screen on February 27.

A Division Bench comprising Justices SA Dharmadhikari and PV Balakrishnan set aside the earlier order passed by single-judge Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas, which had temporarily halted the film's release, acting upon a petition filed against the film's censor certificate, reported India Today.

On Thursday, Justice Thomas had imposed a 15-day stay and directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to consider representations filed against the film.

With the stay now lifted, the film is expected to release on Friday evening.

Film trade analyst Komal Nahta wrote on X: “Stay on ‘The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond’ release lifted by division bench of the Kerala High Court. Film to release this evening (27th February).”

The controversy surrounding The Kerala Story 2 intensified after the release of its trailer, which depicts Hindu women allegedly being targeted by Islamic men under the guise of romantic relationships, portraying such relationships as a means of manipulation and coercion.

The film has been written by Amarnath Jha and Vipul Amrutlal Shah, and directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh.
