Idris Elba will not play James Bond onscreen

Los Angeles, Aug 22 (IBNS): Ending weeks of speculations, Idris Alba has confirmed that he will not be playing the character of James Bond in the upcoming movies of the series.

Actor Daniel Craig plays the character of Bond at present.

When asked about his probable chance of playing Bond, the actor, as per a Daily Mail news report, said 'no'.

The actor made the response while interacting with the media on the red carpet at the premiere of his new film "Yardie" on Tuesday.

His confirmation ended all rumours around him playing the role of Bond.

If rumours would have proven to be true then he would have been the first black actor to play the popular fictional character onscreen.

Speculations around him playing the character onscreen became more strong last week when he had tweeted: "my name’s Elba, Idris Elba."

He wrote it in style to match a popular dialogue from Bond movies which said:"I am Bond, James Bond'.

Meanwhile, in his last tweet, Idris urged his fans to watch his latest released movie Yardie.

"See my new film @YardieFilm in cinemas before anyone else at an advance preview nationwide THIS THURSDAY. As well as the film there will be a performance by the amazing @KojoFunds," he tweeted.
