Thiruvananthapuram/IBNS: Mammootty’s Malayalam thriller Kalamkaval has registered a robust start at the box office, collecting Rs. 5 crore on its opening day across all languages in India, according to Sacnilk.

The collection surpasses the day-one earnings of Mammootty’s previous release, Bazooka.

Directed by Jithin K. Jose, the film stars Vinayakan alongside Mammootty in the lead, with Gibin Gopinath and Rajisha Vijayan in supporting roles.

The narrative centers on a tense police investigation in the small village of Kottayikonam, triggered by a communal riot.

What starts as a routine inquiry soon unravels into a series of mysterious disappearances, leading to a dark and suspenseful hunt for truth.

Why It Matters

Kalamkaval merges a moral-psychological thriller with a crime investigation, steering clear of typical mass-action tropes — a style that distinguishes it in contemporary Malayalam cinema.

The film explores sensitive themes such as communal violence, missing persons, and systemic rot, offering a gritty and thought-provoking narrative rather than conventional escapist entertainment.

For fans of Mammootty or audiences who enjoy slow-burn, atmospheric thrillers, Kalamkaval promises a compelling cinematic experience.
