Actress Jodie Comer is earning praise for her appearance in Broadway play 'Prima Facie' but on June 7 she had to cut short her performance midway due to an air quality crisis in New York.

According to reports, the actress said she was facing trouble breathing due to wildfire smoke.

Eyewitnesses told Variety Comer told the audience she couldn’t breathe because of the air and a stage manager helped her off stage about 10 minutes into the matinée performance.

The show resumed from the top shortly after with Comer’s understudy Dani Arlington taking over the role, a spokesperson for the play confirmed to Variety.

New York City is currently facing terrible air quality as Canadian wildfire smoke blows in its direction.

The city's air is currently filled with a yellow hue.

A few details about Prima Facie:

Prima Facie is a one-woman play by Suzie Miller.

The plot follows Tessa, a criminal defense barrister whose view of the legal system changes after she is sexually assaulted.

The show was nominated for five Laurence Olivier Awards, with wins for Best New Play and Best Actress for Jodie Comer.

According to reports, the play has been nominated for four Tony Awards.
