Oscar 2018: Canadians win big for The Shape Of Water

Los Angeles/Toronto, Mar 5 (IBNS): Three Canadians, who were parts of film The Shape Of Water, bagged Academy Awards for the production designs on Sunday.

Paul Austerberry, Jeffrey A. Melvin and Shane Vieau were nominated for the Oscars. This was the first Oscar nominations for each of them.

The Shape Of Water, which was shot in Toronto and Hamilton, has won the Academy Awards for the best picture.

In the film, apart from director Guillermo del Toro and some actors, all were Canadians.

Guillermo del Toro has won the best director award for The Shape Of Water.

Congratulating Guillermo del Toro, Toronto Mayor John Tory tweeted, " Congratulations to @RealGDT & @shapeofwater! A Made in Toronto production that is a true testament to our city’s film industry. #oscars."

On the eve of the Academy Awards, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had wished luck to all the nominees hailing from his country on Twitter.

Trudeau tweeted, "Lots of Canadians up for #Oscars again this year. Congratulations, good luck tonight and thank you for bringing your magic to the big screen."

The 90th Academy Awards were held at the star-studded Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

The award ceremony was hosted by talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel for the second time in a row.
