Rahul Arunoday Banerjee dies in Talsari: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Tollywood colleagues mourn

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said the death of actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee left her 'deeply distressed'.

In an X post, Banerjee said, "I am left stunned, deeply distressed, and grief-stricken by the sudden news that the distinguished, young, and popular actor, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, is no longer amongst us."

She further said: "I simply cannot fathom how such a tragedy could have occurred. He was an actor—and a human being—for whom I held the utmost admiration."

"I extend my heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family, loved ones, and countless admirers," the CM said.

She said: "Rahul's sudden departure constitutes an irreparable loss for the world of Bengali acting—for both Tollywood and the television industry."

Tollywood (Bengali film industry) fraternity mourned the death of actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee on Sunday, an incident which left his fans saddened.

Actor Jeet wrote on X: "Deeply saddened to hear about his sudden passing. Gone far too soon… it’s a stark reminder of how uncertain life truly is. May his soul rest in peace. Strength and prayers to his family."

Film director Raj Chakrabarty said: "Ever since I heard the news, I simply couldn't believe it. I cannot come to terms with this untimely departure. May you find peace in the land of no return, Rahul."

Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, who had become a household name following the success of his Tollywood debut movie 'Chirodini Tumi Je Amar', died after drowning during a shoot in Talsari, a coastal location near Digha. He was 43.

According to reports, the actor had travelled to Talsari for the filming of a television serial when the incident occurred.

Crew members and technicians rushed to rescue him after noticing he was in distress in the water, but he could not be revived.

He was filming for the serial “Bhole Baba Par Karega” at the time of the incident, as reported by Anandabazar Patrika.

Born in 1983, Rahul Banerjee made his Tollywood debut with Chirodini Tumi Je Amar (2008), which brought him widespread recognition.

Over the years, he worked across films, television, and OTT platforms, establishing himself as a familiar face in Bengali entertainment.

He worked in several popular Tollywood films like Jackpot, Jiyo Kaka, Kagojer Bou, Meghe Dhaka Tara, Chotushkon,  Byomkesh Phire Alo, Ebar Shabor, among others
