Raising voice peacefully and meeting with violence is wrong: Priyanka Chopra over Jamia incident

Mumbai/IBNS: Joining the bandwagon, actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas spoke against the crackdown on the Jamia Millia University students who were protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.

Priyanka took to Twitter to say meeting with violence while raising voice peacefully is wrong and added that "every voice counts".

Her statement reads, "Education for every child is our dream. Education is what empowered them to think independently. We have raised them to have a voice. In a thriving democracy, to raise one's voice peacefully and be met with violence is wrong. Every voice counts. And each voice will work towards changing India."

The protests against the CAA turned violent even in Delhi on last Sunday evening when several vehicles were set on fire following the agitation of the students of Delhi's Jamia Millia University. Reacting to the development, police had entered the university campus and assaulted various students sparking an outrage across the country.

However it is yet to be proven whether the students had set the vehicles on fire.

Several Bollywood actors including Ayushmann Khurrana, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Rajkummar Rao, Taapsee Pannu, Bhumi Pednekar had protested against the crackdown on Jamia students through their statements on social media.
