Mumbai/IBNS: Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt has praised her actor boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor for understanding her state of mind during the shooting of Gangubai Kathiawadi, which is directed by ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

When Bhatt was asked whether she had sought advice from Kapoor regarding the film, the 28-year-old actress said, "No, because I wanted to have my own experience. I have realised that we don't actually go and seek advice from people. So that doesn't happen."

"But I can say one thing for sure that while I was making the film, I didn't need to explain my state of mind at the end of the day to him (Ranbir Kapoor) because he totally understood. The fact that he understood, it was very helpful (for me)," the actress said while promoting the film in Kolkata earlier this week.

Kapoor, who was Bhansali's assistant in Amitabh Bachchan starrer Black, was launched by the director with Saawariya in 2007.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is the first project where Bhatt has collaborated with Bhansali.

The film is a real life story on brothel owner Gangubai Kathiawdi, who used to live in the Kamathipura area of Mumbai.

Bhatt plays the lead role of Gangubai in the film, which is slated for Feb 25 release.
