Kolkata/IBNS: Actor Anirban Bhattacharya, who is making his directorial debut with hoichoi show 'Mandaar', on Monday said the challenge in the upcoming project was the reinterpretation of William Shakespeare's Macbeth.

On the sidelines of the trailer launch of 'Mandaar', Bhattacharya said, "In this new adaptation, we had to decode in which backdrop the story could be told."

"Our challenge was to make a new interpretation of Macbeth," the actor, who considers Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Maqbool' as the best adaptation of Macbeth on screen till date, added.

'Mandaar' is a reincarnation of the infamous tale of power and prophecies, greed and lust along with the betrayals of Macbeth set along the vast shoreline of the World of Gelipur.

Not just filmmaking, Bhattacharya is also present in the show as an actor playing the role of a cop.

Besides Bhattacharya, the show also features Debasish Mondal as Mandaar (Macbeth) and Sohini Sarkar as Laili (Lady Macbeth).

Speaking on his work, Mondal said, "I simply hope I have done justice to the character, to Mandaar, and the vision Anirban and the team had while curating Mandaar."

"Lady Macbeth's character is very dark," said Sarkar and added, "Portraying her on screen was very exhausting yet satisfactory. I always wait for such challenging roles."

'Mandaar's will start streaming on hoichoi from Nov 19.
