Rohit Shetty to produce biopic on former Mumbai top cop Rakesh Maria

Mumbai: Filmmaker Rohit Shetty, who is known for making cop movies, has announced he will produce a biopic on ex-top cop of Mumbai, Rakesh Maria.

"From solving the 93 Mumbai blast case, fearlessly facing the mumbai underworld during the late 90s to interrogating the lone surviving terrorist, Ajmal Kasab & standing strong for his city during the 26/11 attacks...Rakesh Maria has been a name synonymous with courage and valour!

Feel honoured to be bringing this real life supercop's journey to screen!!!@rohitshettypicturez," Rohit worte on Instagram as he announced his new project based on the life of the former police commissioner of Mumbai. 

He also shared an image with Maria.

Rohit has collaborated with Reliance Entertainment to make the movie on Maria.

Reacting to the development, Maria was quoted as saying by India Today: "It is exciting to re-live the journey, especially when piloted by a brilliant director like Rohit Shetty. More than the nostalgia, it’s also a valuable opportunity to place before the people the extraordinary work of the Mumbai Police when facing tough challenges and working against all odds."

Maria last served as the Director General of Home Guard.

Before that he served as the Police Commissioner of Mumbai.

As the Deputy Commissioner Police (Traffic) in 1993, he solved the Bombay serial blasts case, and later moved to DCP (Crime) and then Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) of the Mumbai Police.

Maria was given the responsibility of investigating the 26/11 Mumbai attacks of 2008.

He interrogated Ajmal Kasab, the only terrorist captured alive, and successfully investigated the case.
 
Meanwhile, actor Ranveer Singh shared his excitement on the announcement and wrote in the caption section of Rohit's Instagram post: "Class."
