‘Rom-coms are tough to crack’: Kartik Aaryan ahead of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri release
Actor Kartik Aaryan opens up about returning to romantic comedies with Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, his evolving chemistry with Ananya Panday, being labelled a marketing whiz, and why he still believes in old-school love. IBNS-TWF correspondent Souvik Ghosh reports...
Q. How does it feel to return to the rom-com genre?
A. I am really happy to be back in this genre. My recent films like Chandu Champion and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 were very different. I am looking forward to the audience’s reaction to Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri because rom-coms are a difficult genre to crack. There is immense pressure to pull off such a film successfully.

Q. You are being called the contemporary poster boy of romance. What is love to you?
A. I don’t think I am the poster boy of romance because there are plenty of actors who excel in this genre. I have a personality that often gets mixed with the characters I play. The credit really goes to my director. I just hope my kind of onscreen romance connects with the audience.
Q. What’s the mystery behind your chemistry with Ananya Panday, which is already trending online?
A. It has been six or seven years since we first got to know each other and worked together on a film. We have grown as individuals since then, but our chemistry, friendship and professional equation haven’t changed. That, I think, is the mystery behind our onscreen chemistry.

Q. You are being termed a marketing genius when it comes to promoting your films. What do you have to say about it?
A. I am always passionately attached to a film right from its inception to its release. I believe marketing is a very important part of filmmaking. I’m probably being credited with these attributes because the films have worked.
Q. Is it a conscious choice to be part of romantic stories that also address women’s rights?
A. I feel extremely fortunate to be cast in stories that are not preachy but address important issues through entertainment. I am thankful to the makers for handling a serious subject the way they did in Satyaprem Ki Katha. I feel lucky to be offered such roles.

Q. What is your idea of romance? Do you believe in hook-up culture?
A. I believe in the 1990s kind of romance and not in hook-up culture. I am still in search of true romance in life (laughs).
