Los Angeles: Actor Idris and his wife Sabrina Elba recently participated in the Rwandan ceremony called Kwita Izina during their visit to the Central African nation.

The couple named a baby gorilla at this year's Kwita Izina naming ceremony.

Sabrina Elba said they named the baby gorilla 'Narame'.

"Thank you for letting us name a baby gorilla at this years Kwita Izina naming ceremony. We named our little guy Narame which translates to long life. His mother lost her two previous baby’s so we hope this one has a long and fruitful life," she said.

What is Kwita Izina?

Kwita Izina is inspired by the ancient Rwandan tradition of naming a baby soon after its birth, as per the African Wildlife Foundation website.

During this ceremony, infant mountain gorillas that were born in Rwanda during the previous year receive their names.
