Sacked CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani goes bold with Julie 2

Mumbai, Sep 4 (IBNS): Former CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani, who had been criticised for objecting the bold contents in several films, is coming up with a bold movie Julie 2 as a distributor in October.

From Jab Harry Met Sejal to Lipstick Under My Burkha, Nihalani was severely criticised for his kind of censorship.

However  Julie 2 trailer already carries several sexually explicit scenes .

Directed by Deepak Shivdasani, the film stars regional actress Raai Laxmi in lead role.

The trailer revealed Raai in several topless avatars exposing her bare back, scenes that many found ironic in a film by former CBFC chief known for recommending multiple cuts in the films he reviewed while holding the position.

In an interview to CNN News 18 on Monday, Nihalani said he is no more the CBFC chairman but a businessman.

The former CBFC chief stated that he demanded an adult certificate for the film and not a universal one.

Few months back, Nihalani as the CBFC chief was seen to object the word "intercourse" in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jab Harry Met Sejal, expressing his concerns for the under age children.

The former chairman had earlier restricted himself from certifying Lipstick Under My Burkha citing it as a "lady oriented film".

He also drew flak for beeping out the word cow in a recent documentary on Nobel laureate Amartya Sen.

In 2016, Nihalani had suggested the makers of Udta Punjab to get 89 cuts in the film. The matter went on to the court room and finally the film was released with just one cut.

So far, Nihalani has produced 16 films in total.

Capping the controversial chapter in Indian film certification, the central government in August removed Pahlaj Nihalani as chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification in India (CBFC) and replaced him with Prasoon Joshi.
