SC declines to stay release of Narendra Modi biopic

New Delhi, Apr 9 (UNI) Affirming that it could not decide on the basis of a two-minute trailer whether the biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi would influence voters, the Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a petition filed by Indian National Congress spokesperson, Aman Panwar, seeking a stay on the release of the movie, slated for April 11, Thursday.

The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, ruled, "We are dismissing the petition. There is no merit in the plea."

It observed that the biopic was yet to be certified by the film censor board. ''How can we stay it?''

Panwar had sought a stay on the release of the movie which, he asserted, would influence voters and provide political mileage to the Bharatiya Janata Party and Mr Modi.
