The Return of the Planet Africa Party can be watched tonight live at TIFF

It is a place for the movie stars to mingle with local artists, international filmmakers, and Toronto’s Black community on the dance floor.

Planet Africa was launched by TIFF in 1995 as a new section that showcases films from Africa and the African diaspora and over 10 years Planet Africa brought films by Safi Faye, John Akomfrah, Abderrahmane Sissako, Euzhan Palcy, Charles Burnett, Djibril Diop Mambéty, and more to Toronto.

"From year one at Toronto’s tony McGill Club to the annual monster jams that followed, the Planet Africa party fast became the Festival’s hot ticket. Movie stars mingled with local artists, international filmmakers, and Toronto’s Black community on the dance floor," read the TIFF website event page.

"This year, no velvet rope — we bring the Planet Africa party streaming into your home. Original DJ Dave Campbell spins his signature eclectic mix, while DJ Mr Akil D from the B.L.A.C.K Ball picks up the mantle," read the page.

"We premiered Jamaica’s Dancehall Queen. We also ran a pretty hot Planet Africa party. This year, as we join the call from the streets for Black liberation. We are celebrating the voices that Planet Africa amplified," says Cameron Bailey, TIFF Co-Head and Artistic Director and Founder, Planet Africa.
