The first wave of social media reactions to Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man: Brand New Day has begun pouring in, and the initial verdict suggests the highly anticipated superhero film could be headed for a blockbuster run at the global box office.

The world premiere of the film was held on Monday at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, days ahead of its worldwide theatrical release on July 31.

Film journalist Germain Lussier shared his reaction on X, writing: "Don’t mind me. I’m just sitting here crying after watching #SpiderManBrandNewDay."

He added: "It’s a massive movie that balances like five different through lines in equal measure, each better than the last. It can feel a little overwhelming, but it all comes together so beautifully it works."

Another X user, Adam Hlavac, praised the film, saying: "My flabber has been ghasted. I loved #SpiderManBrandNewDay! Destin Daniel Cretton and Tom Holland put their hearts and souls into this thing, and it pays off HUGE! This movie is going to be massive and we’re going to be talking about it for a while."

He continued: "I was floored by how well everything is balanced—emotion, humor, action, practical versus visual effects, score, and the cinematography. This felt so handmade, even with some of the massive set pieces, and is filled to the top with heart."

Film critic Mike Ryan described the movie as "a much more cerebral follow-up than the crowd-pleasing No Way Home."

He wrote: "It’s Tom Holland’s best performance as Peter Parker and the best Spider-Man movie since Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. Also, the costume finally looks incredible."

Entertainment reporter Jonathan Sim also praised the film's visuals, posting: "From a visual perspective, #SpiderManBrandNewDay is the BEST MCU #SpiderMan movie by a LONG SHOT."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a 2026 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man.

Produced by Columbia Pictures, Marvel Studios, and Pascal Pictures, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, the film marks the 38th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the fourth MCU Spider-Man film, following the global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the film stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.
