Veteran actor Soumitra Chattopadhyay tests Covid-19 positive, hospitalised

Kolkata/IBNS: Veteran Bengali actor and Dadasaheb Phalke Award recipient Soumitra Chattopadhyay has tested positive for Novel Coronavirus, media reports said.

He has been admitted to a private hospital here.

The actor was suffering from illness for the last few days.

Chattopadhyay, 85, in July returned to the shooting floor with actor-filmmaker Parambrata Chattopadhyay's Abhijaan after months of anti-Covid-19 lockdown.

Earlier Bengali actor Koel Mallick and her family, filmmaker Raj Chakraborty had tested positive for Covid-19.

Praying for Chattopadhyay's recovery, senior Bengali actor Jeet tweeted, "Praying for speedy recovery of  #SoumitraChattopadhyay sir. He is been tested Covid+."

Filmmaker Raj Chakraborty tweeted, "You've always been a fighter and you'll fight this through. Get well soon, sir. Praying for your speedy recovery."

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted, "Concerned to hear about the veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee testing positive for COVID-19. Praying for his speedy recovery and good health!"
