2nd T20I: India beat Sri Lanka by 69 runs
Ranchi, Feb 12 (IBNS) Playing a 3-match series, India, who were down by a match, came back strongly to beat Sri Lanka by 69 runs to level the series 1-1, here on Friday.
Asked to bat first, the Indian team put up 196 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.
The opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma provided a solid start as they put up 75 runs in 7 overs.
Dhawan scored his first T20I half century, 51 runs off 25 balls. The southpaw hit 7 boundaries and 2 sixes.
Rohit Sharma scored 43 runs off 36 balls, hitting 2 fours and 1 sixes.
Once the foundation was laid by the openers, Raina (30), Rahane (25) and Hardik Pandya (27) chipped in to take India's score past 160 runs.
For Sri Lanka, Thisara Perera picked up 3 wickets. Dushmantha Chameera (2) and Suchithra Senanayaka (1) were the other bowlers who picked up wickets.
Starting the chase, Sri Lanka lost their first wicket for 2 runs.
India struck regularly to reduce the visitors to 16 for the loss of 3 wickets.
A 52-run partnership followed for the ensuing wicket and another 40 plus runs for the next.
At 116 for 6, Sri Lanka could never really recover from the blow and finally ended with 127 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.
For India, Ashwin picked up 3 wickets. Ashish Nehra, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah picked up 2 wickets each.
Shikhar Dhawan was adjudged the Man-of the match.
