Kingstown/IBNS: Afghanistan's 8-wicket victory (D/L) over Bangladesh in the Super 8 match of T20 World Cup knocked cricket giant Australia out of the mega tournament on Monday.

Australia were betting on Bangladesh to win, the only way the Aussies could reach the semifinals.

The Aussies had a disastrous run in the Super 8 stage after they suffered a stunning defeat in the hands of Afghanistan followed by a 24-run loss against India on Monday.

Afghanistan, who had also defeated giant team New Zealand in this World Cup, is now in the semifinal.

After putting 115/5 in 20 overs, Afghanistan bowled Bangladesh for 105 in 17.5 overs to clinch the win through Duckworth Lewis method in a rain-interrupted match.

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan (4/23) and Naveen-ul-Haq (4/26) were the star of the match with the ball after low total put on the scoreboard by the batters.

Afghanistan will now take on South Africa in the first semifinal while India will play against England in the second semifinal. Both matches will be played on June 27.
