Asia Cup: Bangladesh defeat UAE by 51 runs

Dhaka, Feb 27 (IBNS) Chasing a relatively low target, the UAE batsmen faltered yet again to handover Bangladesh a much needed 51 runs victory, here on Friday.

After winning the toss and deciding to ball first, Amjad Javed and his men did well to restrict the hosts Bangladesh to a modest 133 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.

The men in green had a good opening stand of 46 runs but a strong comeback from the UAE bowlers restarted their progress as they kept on losing wickets.

A last over heroics from Mahmudullah Riyad, who picked up the Man-of-the-Match award saw the host's total go past the 130 mark. The Bangladeshi all rounder plundered 17 runs from the final over.

Coming out to bat, UAE were bowled out for 82 runs as they lost their opening wicket in the very first over.

A careless shot followed another and soon the visitors slipped to a precarious position and it was a matter of time for the Bangladeshi bowlers to finish off the game.

For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman, Mashrafe Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah picked up four wickets each.

Mahumdullah also chipped in with 36 runs off 27 balls with two sixes and a solitary boundary.

For UAE, Muhammad Usman was the only batsman who tried providing impetus to their innings with a score of 30 off identical deliveries.

Though their batsmen faltered, the bowlers did a good job and picked up eight wickets.

Captain Javed and Mohammed Naved picked up a brace each while Mohammad Shehzad and Rohan Musthafa chipped in with one each.
