Asia Cup shifted to UAE from Sri Lanka: Sourav Ganguly

Mumbai/UNI: Indian cricket board (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly Thursday announced the shifting of Asia Cup from Sri Lanka to the UAE.

The mega tournament was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka.

But Sri Lanka Cricket Wednesday told the Asian Cricket Council that it would not be possible for them to hold the Asia Cup in the wake of economic and political crisis in the country.

"Asia Cup will be in UAE, as it is the only place where there won't be rain," Ganguly told reporters after BCCI's Apex Council meeting here.

This decision by SLC came after the postponement of the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) due to the ongoing crisis in the country.

Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in the T20 format from Aug 27 to Sept 11.
