Asian Games: With two golds, India jumps to 9th spot

Incheon, Oct 2 (IBNS) India made a stronger performance in the Asian Games on Thursday as the sportsmen clinched two golds to move up to the ninth position in the ranking list.

In the women's  4x400m relay event Indian athletes Priyanka Panwar, Tintu Luka, Mandeep Kaur and M R Poovamma clocked  3:28.68  to grab the gold medal.

The silver wen to japan while China won the bronze medal.

The other gold medal of the day came from    Hockey where the men's team defeated arch-rival Pakistan 4-2 and qualified for the    Rio Olympic Games on 2016.

Inderjeet Singhwon a bronze medal in the men's shot put event with a best throw of 19.63 metres.

In boxing also, Indians did not return empty handed today with Vikas Krishan and Satish Kumar settling for bronze medals each.

Vikas had to settle for bronze after Zhanibek Alimkhanuly of Kazakhstan defeated him by split verdict of 2-1 in the middleweight (75 kg) category.

The Indian boxer was the 2010 Asiad champion in the 60 kg category.

Satish  was defeated by Kazakh's  Ivan Dychko by a clear verdict   of 3-0 in all the rounds.
