Asia's Biggest School Rowing Meet at Rabindra Sarobar from May 31

Kolkata, May 31 (IBNS) 43rd KC Mahindra All India school rowing championship, the biggest school regatta in Asia , being organized by Lake Club, will be held at Rabindra Sarobor lake here from May 31 to June 6.

Announcing this to media persons convenor  of the championship Kalyan Sarangi Friday informed that about three hundred students , both boys and girls representing  some  50 schools from different parts of the country  will take part in 7-day meet. Of the 300 participants,  50 crews  representing schools from Assam, Andaman,Odisha , Kelara and Maharastra will also vie for honours in events of fours and double scull .

Competition will be held under two categories -junior boys and girls ( upto class X ) and senior girls and senior boys ( for class XI and XI )I.

the competition will be held on  the picturesque 500 mts course of the lake which  recognised by Rowing Federation of India (RFI).  The winners would be awarded trophies and certificates.

Mr. Sarengi  informed that nine boats and oars  are being  specially brought  from Pune will be used for the finals on  June 6.  This apart, regatta training to the local participants for this meet  was provided by the club free of charge  while  free boarding and lodging have also been arranged by the organizer for the outstation participants. 

West Bengal's Municipal Affairs Minister Firhad Hakim  will inaugurate  the meet on May 31 and  west Bengal te governor KN Tripathy will be the Guest in Chief at the closing ceremony on June 6.

Along with  rowing, the  main event,  the organizers are also  hosting dart, swimming and archery  and quiz competitions for the participating  students  during the meet.

However, this time the tournament will miss a champ Shweta Bramachary, a class eleven  student, who is now at the national camp to represent India in Asian Junior Rowing  championship to be held in China during   next June end.
