Incessant rain ensured that the match between Australia and South Africa was abandoned without even a ball being bowled in Rawalpindi.

The exciting contest was called off, with both sides sharing a point because of a no-result.

With this, South Africa stay atop the Group B with three points at a NRR of +2.140, while Australia are second with +0.475.

Despite the disappointment, Australia skipper Steve Smith looked at the brighter side of things, stating that the equations were pretty simple for Australia as they needed a win against Afghanistan to qualify.

Temba Bavuma stated that the South African spirits were high despite the washout, and also updated that Heinrich Klaasen was fit and raring to go for the upcoming games.

Both sides had a win coming into their second contest.

South Africa overcame the Afghan threat with aplomb, unleashing a total performance that saw them secure a 107-run win.

On the other hand, Australia fell back in their first innings against England, wherein Ben Duckett (165) unleashed his batting prowess and helped England to a record-high Champions Trophy total of 351/8.

However, what followed was a sensational comeback, as Josh Inglis & co. chased down the target with 15 balls to spare.
