Kolkata, April 2 (IBNS): Olympian gymnast Padma Shri Dipa Karmakar was felicitated alongside her coach Dronacharya Bishweshwar Nandi by Bengal Baseball Association in Kolkata recently.

Drawing inspiration from Karmakar's famous mastery of Produnova vault through dedication and practice, the Bengal Baseball Association has declared the Agartala girl as their brand ambassador.

According to the organizers, they want to inculcate a similar sense of perseverance and determination among the state's baseball players.

"Baseball is a sport new to all of us. When I first started on the Produnova vault, few had heard about it.  But now you all know about it," said Karmakar.
“My aim is to see baseball gain similar popularity in the coming days."

Karmakar had won the Bronze medal in 2014 Commonwealth Games but missed a medal by a whisker in the 2016 Olympic Games.

West Bengal Minister of State for Women & Child Welfare and Social Welfare - Sashi Panja, Rajya Sabha MP and Chairman of Bengal Baseball Federation - Manas Ranjan Bhunia, and MLA Tapas Roy of Baranagar were also present at the felicitation ceremony.
