Canada women's basketball team qualify for 2024 Paris Olympics

Sopron, Hungary/IBNS: The Canadian women’s basketball team has qualified for the Paris Olympics.

Bridget Carleton led the way with 19 points and eight rebounds but Canada fell to 1-2 dropping a pivotal game against Japan, 86-82.

After suffering an 86-82 loss to Japan on Sunday at the FIBA Olympic qualifying tournament in Sopron, Hungary, Canada missed a chance to win its way into the Olympic Games on Sunday in FIBA Olympic qualifying tournament action.

Following Japan’s victory, both Japan and Spain qualified for Olympic spots.

After Spain beat Hungary in the last game of the tourney, Canada was able to claim a spot in the Olympic tournament,

With three teams qualifying for the Olympics from the four-team tournament, Canada was able to make it through with Spain’s 73-72 win over Hungary later Sunday making it Canada’s fourth straight Olympic appearance.

The tournament is one of four qualifying competitions being played.
