Ranchi, May 2 (IBNS) Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)'s poor show in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) continued even as the tournament returned to India for its next leg where Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered 34 runs victory against Gautam Gambhir's side here on Friday.

Ravindra Jadeja's lethal bowling demolished the KKR batting as the side were restricted to 114 for nine, chasing CSK's competitive 148 for three.

Jadeja picked up four wickets by giving away 12 runs while Mohit Sharma took three for 22 to give CSK the first win in the India leg of the tournament.

CSK continued their good run in the tournament after returning from UAE where the first leg of the tournament was played.

The only two positive points in the KKR line-up were opener Robin Uthappa's 47 and Yusuf Pathan's 29-ball 41.

Robin hammered five boundaries and a six in his knock while Pathan showed his positive intents in the four huge sixes and a boundary coming out of his willow.

The rest of the KKR batsmen could not even reach the double figure mark.

Earlier, CSK posted 148 for three in 17 over-per side encounter.

Brendon McCullum remained the top-scorer for the side with his 40-ball 56. The New Zealand skipper smashed five boundaries and two sixes in his knock.

Suresh Raina (31), local lad MS Dhoni (22*) and Jadeja (17*) made some good contributions with their willows.

Shakib Al Hasan picked up two wickets for KKR.

Scorecard:

CSK: 148 for three in 17 overs (B McCullum 56; S Al Hasan 2/25)

KKR 114 for nine in 17 overs (R Uthappa 47; R Jadeja 4/12, M  Sharma 3/22)
