Moscow, Jun 16 (IBNS): Putting up a tough fight, Iceland denied a win to Argentina as the match ended in a draw at the Spartak Stadium here on Saturday.

The match was drawn 1-1.

The miss of a penalty shootout by Lionel Messi at the 64th minute costed Argentina badly as they failed to defeat Iceland.

Sergio Aguero enabled Argentina to take the first lead at the 19th minute of the match but Iceland compensated with a goal in just four minutes' time.

At the 23rd minute, Alfreo Finnbogason helped Iceland to level the score.

This was the first ever encounter between the two sides.

Both the teams got three points.
