Fifth Test: Australia win by an innings and 46 runs, England win the series 3-2
England was down and out ever since their batting line-up collapsed in the first innings, getting bundled out for 149 in reply to Australia’s 481. Though things improved for them in the ensuing innings, it was not sufficient to cover up the deficit, costing them the match as a result.
They added 83 runs to their overnight score of 203 before the Australian bowlers picked up the remaining 4 wickets.
Moeen Ali (35) tried to up the ante but perished in the process as Peter Siddle picked up his fourth wicket of the innings to conclude proceedings.
Siddle was the best bowler for his side, picking up 3 on the fourth day; Mitchell Marsh added one more to his kitty to finish with 2 wickets for 56 runs.
Steven Smith was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match for his brilliant century.
Joe Root was adjudged the Man-of-the-Series for his outstanding batting in bowler friendly conditions.
