Kolkata, Oct 11 (IBNS): Amid thunderous welcome, Brazilian football legend Pele arrived in Kolkata after 38 years.

Apart from media contingent, football lovers had assembled in the city to greet the footballer in Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.

Pele waved his hands to cheering crowd that had gathered in the airport and said: "Thank you."

His fans were seen busy clicking their mobile cameras to capture the moment.

Pele will visit Eden Gardens stadium on Monday  where he had displayed his skills in front of a huge crowd of football lovers in 1977.

The 74-year-old will attend Legend's Night event at the Netaji Indoor Stadium on Oct 12, organizers of the event said last month.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, ex-Indian cricket team skipper Sourav Ganguly and the players of Mohun Bagan team that had played against Pele's New York Cosmos in 1977 will be present at the event.

Pele will also meet ISL side Atletico de Kolkata on Oct 13 and will attend as the guest of honour during the team's first home match in the second season of the football tournament against Kerala Blasters at Salt Lake Stadium.
