Footballer Karim Benzema arrested over sex tape row in France

| | Nov 06, 2015, at 04:54 am
Paris, Nov 5 (IBNS) French international and Real Madrid superstar, footballer Karim Benzema was arrested in Versailles on Wednesday following his alleged connection in a sex tape blackmail plot involving his team mate Mathieu Valbuena, reports have said.
Benzema was accused of extorting money from his team mate, blackmailing him to release the tape, about which Valbuena was informed by Benzema a few months ago when the two met for a practice session.

Benzema's lawyer have said that he 'played no part' in extorting money when the accused was produced before a judge on Thursday, the BBC reported.

If found guilty, Benzema can face up to five years in prison.

Earlier in 2014, he was cleared of charges that he slept with an under age prostitute, a crime according to French law.

Both Benzema and Valbuena have been left out of the squad by the French manager for their upcoming games against Germany and England.
