Game plan was to play till the end: Nitish Rana

Kolkata, Apr 17 (IBNS): Nitish Rana, who made a massive contribution in Kolkata Knight Riders' win against Delhi Daredevils on Monday, said he had a plan to play through the entire innings while Windies all-rounder Andre Russell was smashing sixes from the other end.

"My game-plan was to play till the end. In the first and third matches, I was playing well but was bit unlucky to get out. Today I had decided to play till the end and waited for the spinners to come into action as spin bowling is an easy option for me to play" Rana said at the post-match press conference.

Not only in the match against Delhi Daredevils, Rana was the chief architect of Knight Riders' victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore with both bat and ball.

Rana, who scored 59 runs from 35 balls on Monday, believes it is the team's combined effort that led to the victory against Daredevils.

To a query by IBNS, the 24-year old southpaw said: "It is the team's contribution. Kuldeep Yadav's two wickets in the form of Glenn Maxwell and Rishabh Pant were crucial. Every player has a particular role in the team. I am happy to play my role successfully."

Rana's 61-run partnership with Russell enabled the Knights to post a huge total of 200 runs on-board.

While young Rana never kept a wrong foot in his entire innings of 59 runs till his dismissal, Russell’s innings sky-rocketed to 41 from 11 balls.

Speaking about his planning with Russell while batting, Rana said: "The plan was like I wanted play till the end enabling Russell to go for the big shots."

Chasing the target of 201, Delhi Daredevils crumbled down to 129 runs in 14.2 overs.
