Hobart beat Barbados to reach semis

Mohali, Sept 28 (IBNS) Hobart Hurricanes put up a strong performance to beat Barbados Tridents by six wickets here on Sunday.

After bowling out  Barbados Tridents  for 113, Hurricanes reached 117 runs by losing four wickets with 10 balls to spare and hence booked their place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Xavier Doherty played a key role in restricting the opponent to 113 as he picked up four wickets by giving away 27 runs in his four overs.

Jonathan Carter remained the top scorer for Barbados with his 42.

He hit three boundaries and two sixes in his 34-ball knock.

Dilshan Munaweera (18), James Franklin (12) and

Akeal Hosein (12) were the other three batsmen to reach the double figure mark.

Doug Bollinger and Ben Hilfenhaus scalped two wickets each for Hobart.

Chasing 114 for victory, Hobart made a poor start to their run chase as they lost the wicket of opener

Ben Dunk (0) with the scorecard reading 1-1.

Tim Paine (18) and Aiden Blizzard (21) added few runs and kept the scorecard ticking before Hobart lost the wicket of Blizzard in the seventh over the match.

Paksiatni cricketer Shoaib Malik, who is playing for Hobart, remained unbeaten at 39 and even added 46 runs in the fifth wicket partnership with

Jonathan Wells (23*) to reach the target quite easily at the end.

Hosein picked up two wickets for Barbados.
