Hockey: Belgium beat India 3-2 in WC opener

The Hague, May 31 (IBNS); India had a poor start to their World Cup campaign as they were defeated by Belgium 2-3 in their opening match here on Saturday.

Mandeep Singh (45th minute) and Akashdeep Singh (50th)  gave Indian 2-1 lead after the opponent had broken the shackles and Florent van Aubel  scored the first goal of the match in 34th minute.

India, however, failed to maintain the lead and Simon Gougnard (56) made the scorecard 2-2 .

India conceded a last minute goal as John Dohmen scored in the 70 th minute to win the first match for Belgium.
