ICC asks MS Dhoni to remove Army Insignia from wicket-keeping gloves

Dubai, June 7 (IBNS): The International Cricket Council has asked former Indian captain MS Dhoni to remove the Indian Army insignia from his wicket-keeping gloves as he had sported during the first World Cup match against South Africa.

“Two manufacturers’ logos are permitted on each wicket-keeping glove. No other visible logos other than the manufacturers’ logos are allowed,” Claire Furlong, the ICC General Manager — Strategic Communications, told The Indian Express.

“We have asked for it to be removed. (It’s a) breach of regulations. No penalty,” Furlong said.

In the opening match against South Africa, which India won comfortably, Dhoni was seen sporting gloves with regimental dagger insignia — Balidaan Badge — of the Indian Special Forces on it.

Incidentally, MS Dhoni, who had led India to 2011 World Cup victory,  is a Territorial Army officer in the Parachute Regiment.

Indian Twitter users have appreciated Dhoni for wearing the gloves.

Infact, #DhoniKeepTheGlove is currently trending on the social media website.

Pakistani Minister targets Dhoni over gloves:

Fawad Chaudhry, who is Pakistan's Federal Minister for Science and Technology,  has attacked Indian cricketer for wearing the gloves.

He tweeted :"Dhoni is in England to play cricket not to for MahaBharta , what an idiotic debate in Indian Media,a section of Indian media is so obsessed with War they should be sent to Syria, Afghanistan Or Rawanda as mercenaries.... #Idiots."
