India defeat WI to clinch series 2-1

Dharmasala, Oct 16 (IBNS): In a suddenly shortened series, India defeated West Indies by 59 runs in the fourth match to clinch the series 2-1 here on Sunday.

Riding on Virat Kohli's 127,India had posted 330 for six and then the hosts bowled out the visitors for 271 with 11 balls to spare.

Marlon Samuels continued his good form from the first match gave some contest to the Indian bowlers as he smashed 112 runs. He hit nine boundaries and six over boundaries in his knock.

He, however, did not get proper support from the other end as the West Indian batsmen kept returning to the pavilion with just Andy Russell (46) giving some amount of challenge to the hosts with his 23-ball 46.

All the Indian bowlers shined well today with

Bhuvneshwar Kumar , Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Akshar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja  picking up two wickets each.

Kumar bowled a economical spell as he gave away just 25 runs in his 10 overs.

Young Patel also bowled well as he gave away only 26 runs in his 10 overs and picked up two wickets.

Shami, however, went for some runs as he gave away 72 runs in his 9.1 overs. Jadeja  on the other hand gave away 80 runs.

Earlier, India posted 330 for six on the scorecard.

Giving relief to his fans, Kohli returned to form with his dashing 127-run knock. he hammered 13 boundaries and three sixes in his knock.

Suresh Raina (71), Shikhar Dhawan (35) and

Ajinkya Rahane (68) performed well with their willows in this match.

Kohli and Raina created troubles for the opponents as they joined hands to add 138 runs in the third wicket partnership.

West Indies ended the tour here and will not play the last ODI, T20 matches and the Test series.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) decided to pull out of the remaining of India tour due to the ongoing payment dispute with its players.
 
India skipper MS Dhoni appreciated Kohli and said its important for him to 'get back into good nick'.
