| @indiablooms | Jun 30, 2019, at 11:27 pm

Birmingham, June 30 (IBNS): India lost for the first time in this edition of the Cricket World Cup in the hands of England by 31 runs here on Sunday evening.

Batting first, England put up a formidable 337 in a match where Mohammad Shami made his first World Cup five-wicket haul.

After losing the early wicket of K.L. Rahul for zero, Rohit Sharma (102) and captain Virat Kohli (66) consolidated the Indian innings. But after they got out, efforts by Pant (32), Pandya (45) and Dhoni (42) did not turn out enough.

India need one more point to book their place in the semi-finals.
