India finish fourth day's play at 39/1

Chennai: England set India 419 runs target and by the end of the fourth day's play the visitors kept India fighting at 39 runs for the loss of one wicket here on Monday.

Chennai: England set India 419 runs target and by the end of the fourth day's play the visitors kept India fighting at 39 runs for the loss of one wicket here on Monday.

India lost the wicket of Rohit Sharma (12) early.

Shubmann Gill (15*) and Cheteshwar Pujara (12*) are currently at the crease.

Jack Leach picked up the wicket of Sharma to give India an early jolt.

R Ashwin bowled it tight and effectively as he picked up six wickets to bowl out England for 178 runs in the second innings.

England has set a target of 419 runs for India to win the match.

First innings hero Joe Root added 40 runs in the innings to remain the top scorer for the squad.

Ollie Pope (28), Joe Buttler (24) and Dom Bess (25) also contributed with their willows but could not convert the start they made in their innings.

England had scored massive 578 runs in the first innings. Root remained the top scorer with the bat with 218 runs.

Shahbaz Nadeem took two wickets.
