India in disarray as Australia pick early wickets in Brisbane
Brisbane/IBNS: Australia almost wiped out the top order batting of India in quick time after posting a mammoth total on the scoreboard in the first innings of the third Test at The Gabba in Brisbane on Monday.
On a day when play was disturbed by rain repeatedly, India posted 48/4 at tea on the third day of the match.
Just before the last interruption of the match due to rain, Pat Cummins sent wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant packing for just nine from 12 balls.
Prior to lunch, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and veteran Virat Kohli were dismissed cheaply.
KL Rahul, who is looking steady at unbeaten 30 from 52 balls, will come out to bat with skipper Rohit Sharma (0) when play resumes after rain subsides.
Earlier, Australia finished their first innings at 445, courtesy Travis Head's 152 from 160 balls and Steven Smith's 101 from 190 balls.
Alex Carey, who was the overnight batter, slammed a quick 70 from 88 balls to help the hosts inch closer to the 450-mark.
The five-match series of Border Gavaskar Trophy is levelled at 1-1.
