India to take on West Indies in first T20I in Kolkata today

| @indiablooms | Feb 16, 2022, at 05:58 pm

Kolkata/IBNS: After whitewashing the Caribbeans in the One Day Internationals (ODIs), Rohit Sharma's India will kick off their T20I journey against West Indies at the Eden Gardens here on Wednesday.

The first of the three T20Is scheduled to be played at the same venue will be played on Wednesday.

Ahead of the beginning of the series, Sharma called out the media for raising questions over former skipper Virat Kohli's current form.

"If you (media) guys can keep quiet for a while, I think he'll be alright. We don't need to do too much talking from your side, then everything will be taken care of," Sharma said in a virtual press conference on Tuesday.

Kohli has scored 26 runs in the three ODIs played against West Indies earlier this month, depressing his fans who are waiting for big scores from the cricket maestro's bat.

Though he slammed occasional half centuries, Kohli is dearth of a single century since 2019.

Due to anti-COVID-19 restrictions, all three matches will be played with empty stands.

Though the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) had requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allow spectators in the stadium, the top body, run by former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, turned down the plea.

The match is scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
