London: Indian-American Bengali tennis player Samir Banerjee created history by winning the Wimbledon Boys’ singles title.

He clinched the title by beating Victor Lilov of the USA 7-5, 6-3.

The final clash lasted for one hour and 22 minutes.

Banerjee won the title at a time when India is struggling to send a strong junior contender to compete in the grand slam events.

Yuki Bhambri (2009 Australian Open) was the last player to clinch a major junior grand slam event.
