Indian women's hockey team qualify for Tokyo Olympics

Bhubaneswar/UNI:  Skipper Rani Rampal's crucial strike in the 49th minute helped India qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic beating US 6-5 at the Kalinga Stadium here on Saturday.

 

Earlier, on Friday in the first match of the Olympic Qualifiers India thrashed US 5-1, while in the second US won by 4-1.

From two matches India managed to pump 6 goals while the US stayed at 5.

The US took an early lead through Amanda Magadan in the 5th minute from a penalty corner. Then doubled its lead in the first quarter when skipper Kathleen Sharkey smashed the ball into the far post after some good play on the left wing.

India goalkeeper Savita Punia was beaten at the far post in the 20th minute by Alyssa Parker before Magadan wiped the deficit by adding her second goal of the night eight minutes later.

Rampal scored in the 49th minute thrashing US by 6-5 which ensured qualification for the Tokyo Olympics.
