Paris/Xinhua/UNI: Asian 800-meter champion Gomathi Marimuthu was hit by a four-year ban on Saturday for doping and is set to lose her Asian Championships gold medal.

According to the Athletics Integrity Unit, the 31-year-old Indian runner was banned for use of a prohibited substance. Her suspension dates back to May 17, 2019, and she will be disqualified from all races in a two-month period between March 18 to May 17 of last year.

Marimuthu clocked two minutes and 2.70 seconds to finish first in the women's 800m race at the Asian Championships in April 2019 in Doha but is set to be stripped of her title.

Marimuthu can still appeal the ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
