IPL: MI beat KIngs XI Punjab by 7 wickets

Mohali, May 21 (IBNS) Riding on Lendl Simmons' century, Mumbai Indians defeated Kings XI Punjab by seven wickets in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Wednesday.

Chasing Punjab's 156 for eight, Mumbai reached 159 runs by losng three wickets with one over to spare.

Simmons remained unbeaten till the end as he became the first batsman to hit a century in this edition of the cash-rich T20 tournament.

He smashed 14 boundaries and 2 sixes in his knock.

Mike Hussey returned to the pavilion erly by scoring only six runs, failing to contribute much with the bat for Mumbai.

While Simmons dominated the innings, Ambati Rayudu (17) and Rohit Sharma  (18) failed to contribute much with their willows.

Akshar Patel , Rishi Dhawan  and Beuran Hendricks picked one wicket each for Punjab.

Earlier, Punjab scored 156 for eight on the scorecard.

Skipper George Bailey  remained the top scorer for the side with his 39.

Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Gopal picked up two wickets for Mumbai.
