IPL: Virat, AB take RCB home, defeat KKR by 9 wickets

Kolkata, May 16 (IBNS) Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers starred in yet another century stand partnership, as the Royal Challengers Bangalore breezed past the Kolkata Knight Riders here on Monday.

The home team was handed a 9-wicket loss, as Virat and AB put up an unbeaten 115 runs for the second wicket partnership.

Virat (75) remained not out, hitting three sixes and five fours while facing 51 balls.

AB too hit the same amount of boundaries and sixes, while scoring 59 off 31 balls.

After a string of failures, Chris gayle finally lived up to his fame, treating the fans with a fiery innings of 49, before being dismissed by compatriot Sunil Narine, who trapped in in front.

The big Jamaican tonked four sixes and hit five fours in his 31-ball innings. Gayle was also involved in a 71-run partnership with Virat Kohli for the opening wicket.

Asked to bat first, KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir put up a 76-run partnership with Manish Pandey, after losing their first wicket for just 14 runs.

Both Gambhir (51) and Pandey (50) scored a half-century each. While Pandey smacked two sixes and five fours in his 35-ball innings, Gambhir hit seven fours, playing a ball less.

Though Yusuf Pathan scored just the six runs, playing a dozen balls, all-rounder Andre Russell played a breezy innings of 39 runs. Russell hit three sixes and two fours while playing 19-balls.

Shakib Al-Hasan chipped in with 18 runs off 11 balls.

For the visitors, Sreenath Arvind picked up two wickets, while one each was recorded by spinners Iqbal Abdulla and Yuzvendra Chahal.
