It's a memorable day: R Ashwin says after picking up 300 wickets

Nagpur, Nov 27 (IBNS): After breaking a new world record by picking up fastest 300 wickets in Test cricket, Indian spinner R Ashwin on Monday called the day as 'memorable'.

Ashwin said he is looking forward to play the next 18 months.

"300th test wicket at the Jamtha (Nagpur) ,a memorable day. Thank you all@imVkohli look forward to the next 18 months," he tweeted.

Ashwin on Monday broke yet another record during the second Test match against Sri Lanka as he became the fastest bowler in the history of Test cricket to take 300 wickets.

The record was earlier held by Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee since 1981.

India also defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs to take 1-0 lead in the series.

Sri Lanka posted 205 and 166 runs all out in their first and second innings respectively.

India had declared their first innings at 610 runs for the loss of six wickets.

Ashwin picked up four wickets in the innings.

Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets each.

Ashwin picked up 300 wickets by playing 54 Test.

Lillee  had achieved the milestone in 56 Tests.
