Srinagar/IBNS: Young village boy Rohil Rashid from the Kashmir Valley has secured a spot in the prestigious Asia Cup (Men) Softball Championship, set to take place in Kochi, Japan from June 25 to June 28, 2023.

Hailing from the village of Takya Behram Shah in the Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir, Rohil is the youngest son of renowned sports promoter Abdul Rashid Ahanger, reported Rising Kashmir.

His selection for the Asian Softball Championship Japan 2023 marks a significant milestone for the budding athlete.

Rohil's journey in the world of Softball commenced at the age of 11 when he began participating in various tournaments, including Inter School, Inter District, Inter Division, State Level, and National Level Championships.

After attending multiple India Camps organized by the Softball Association of India (SAI) in Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh; Jalgoan, Maharashtra; and Pondicherry, Rohil excelled in the final selection trials conducted by the SAI to secure his spot in the national team.

This proud moment is even more extraordinary as Rohil becomes the second athlete from Jammu & Kashmir to participate in an International Softball Championship in 2023, following in the footsteps of Harleen Kour. Hailing from the Jammu district, Harleen was a vital member of the Indian National Women's team that competed in the Women Asia Cup Softball Championship in South Korea.

Adding to the joy of the sports fraternity, Harvinder Singh, the NIS Topper of Softball in 2006, will accompany the Indian (Men) team as their coach for the Asia Cup Softball Championship in Japan.

His presence as a seasoned mentor further strengthens the team's prospects and instills confidence in the players.

Waseem Raja Khan, General Secretary of the J&K Softball Association, expressed his delight for Rohil's accomplishment, emphasizing the continuous support provided by the J&K Sports Council in nurturing and promoting Softball within Jammu & Kashmir.

He acknowledged the instrumental role played by Ms. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, in raising the standards of sports in the region.

Under the auspices of the Softball Association of India, the Indian National Softball team will embark on their journey from New Delhi to Japan on June 23, 2023, as they represent the country in the highly anticipated Asia Cup (Men) Softball Championship.
