Mumbai, Jan 6 (IBNS): Former Indian wicket-keeper Syed Kirmani on Tuesday welcomed the 15-member squad selected for the World Cup next month and called it a balanced team.

"A well balanced team has been selected," Kirmani told media.

The India selector on Tuesday named the 15-member squad for the World Cup which will be played in Australia and New Zealand  from next month.

MS Dhoni, who recently announced his retirement from Tests, was named the skipper of the squad.

Current Test team skipper Virat Kohli has been selected as the vice-captain of the team.

Stuart Binny has been named in the side.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee of the BCCI also selected the squad for the Tri-series between India, Australia and England to be played in Australia from Jan 18.

Apart from the 15 men named in the World Cup squad, selectors added two pacers-Mohit Sharma and Dhawal Kulkarni- in the squad for the tri-series.

Yuvraj Singh, who was not even named in the 30-member squad, has not been selected in any of the sides that were announced on Tuesday.

Injured Jadeja has been named in the side. India will be defending the title after it defeated Sri Lanka in the final to win the World Cup in 2011.
