Kolkata/IBNS: The women's football team of East Bengal Club was honored by the British Deputy High Commission in Kolkata at Sister Nivedita University (SNU) in New Town.

Additionally, the female players of the SNU were also recognized during the event.

As a way to mark International Women's Day this year, this event was included in the programme.

Acting British Deputy High Commissioner to Kolkata, Peter Cook, said, “Empowering women is a key part of the UK's new gender strategy! I was so glad to join with Sister Nivedita University in Kolkata today to pay full honour to the women in our society."

"I also had the pleasure of meeting the East Bengal Women’s football team and enjoyed hearing so many stories about gender leadership and gender campaigns. I am delighted to add my voice in support of so many women in the struggle for full equality,” he added.

Prof. (Dr). Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay, Vice Chancellor of Sister Nivedita University, said, "Men and women are two forms of the same energy which has created this planet. Hence, I feel if we can remove the discriminations and spread this eternal truth among people, the world would be a much better place to live."

"We should eliminate the need to celebrate Women's or Men's Day and rather focus on celebrating a Day for the entire Humanity," Chattopadhyay said.

As part of the programme, Debasmita Ghosh, Associate Director at Accenture, delivered a speech on the topic of "Empowering Women through Financial and Digital Means for Gender Equality."
